Correct rigging starts before you pull on the downhaul rope. Use the sail’s instructions and inspect the components so that an unsuitable part or incomplete joint is not hidden under tension.
Fully seat the mast joint
Clean the mating surfaces and connect the mast sections completely before inserting or tensioning the rig. Check again during assembly: the joint can separate while you work. Do not use sail tension to force an incomplete connection together.
Match the components
Confirm mast length, diameter and bend curve, extension compatibility and the boom’s fitting requirements. Check the extension’s permitted range and minimum insertion instructions. There is no universal clearance or spare adjustment measurement that applies to every system.
Follow the sail’s tuning range
Route the rope correctly through the pulleys and use appropriate rigging tools. Follow the stated downhaul, outhaul and batten guidance. If a camber or component will not seat as described, stop and recheck the sequence rather than forcing it. Excess tension is not a fix for an incompatible mast.
Handle the rig with care
Keep sharp objects and abrasive surfaces away from sail panels. Avoid leaving the rig exposed to unnecessary heat or sunlight, and use suitable covers for transport.
Before launching
- Check the mast joint and connection to the board.
- Inspect ropes, cleats and safety connections.
- Confirm the boom and extension are secured as specified.
- Stop if you find cracks, damaged fittings or unexplained binding.
